Water and Sanitation Program
WATER AND SANITATION PROGRAM
Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right, yet many low-income communities face severe challenges in obtaining safe water and adequate sanitation facilities. Women and girls are disproportionately affected, as they often bear the burden of fetching water from distant sources, exposing them to safety risks, physical strain, and time away from education and economic opportunities.
The Impact of Water Scarcity and Poor Sanitation
In many rural areas, schools lack a reliable water supply, leaving children dehydrated and less able to concentrate. The time-consuming task of collecting water comes at the expense of education, income-generating activities, rest, and community participation. Additionally, the absence of safe sanitation facilities forces many to rely on inadequate communal latrines or open defecation, further endangering their health and security. For adolescent girls, a lack of private, functioning sanitation facilities often results in school dropout, reinforcing cycles of poverty and gender inequality.
Our Objectives
The Binti Water and Sanitation Program (WASH) aims to make safe, clean water accessible for at least 12 hours a day in low-income communities. By providing reliable water sources and gender-sensitive sanitation facilities in schools, we improve student attendance, particularly among girls, and promote a healthier learning environment. Our initiative contributes to dignity, hygiene, and gender equality while reducing hygiene-related diseases and absenteeism.
Sustainable Solutions and Community Collaboration
We conduct thorough assessments to identify challenges and implement sustainable water and sanitation solutions in partnership with schools, communities, and local authorities. Through inter-sectoral collaboration, we work to ensure long-term maintenance, accountability, and policy advocacy for improved water infrastructure.
By addressing these critical needs, the Binti WASH Program empowers communities with the resources and education necessary to foster lasting change, ensuring that no girl misses out on her future due to a lack of clean water and sanitation.
